A Christmas Carol – creating a new family tradition for Filipinos
by: Manila For Kids

A Christmas Carol is a Charles Dickens classic, that tells the story of a bitter old miser named Ebenezer Scrooge and his transformation into a gentler, kindlier man after visitations of the ghost of his former business partner Jacob Marley and the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Yet to Come. It will remind us, what Christmas is all about.   Globe Live and 9 Works Theatrical brings A Christmas Carol to the Philippines as a musical, set in a stage that will let you not just watch the show...you get to experience it!

...we want to raise the bar with Globe Live and let Filipinos experience things they have never experienced before...
Exciting words from Joe Caliro, Head for Globe's Retail Division and Globe Live, at the press preview for A Christmas Carol. And what an experience it was! The stage has stairs to different levels, balconies, and wraps around the seats on the side. The actors seem to appear from everywhere and you'll have to do your best to see all that's going on.

So close!

Our children were fascinated to be so close to the actors and loved the show. Even though it starts quite late and lasts two hours, there were no signs of sleepiness or boredom. In contrary! They were so into it that my 8 year old jumped on my lap at the first sight of a ghost and the "zombies" as she called them. So, for some young children, certain scenes might be a little scary to watch. But then again, we had seats very close to the stage and they appeared from everywhere!  She would have been totally fine in a seat a bit further from the stage.

The kids loved the snow falling down at the end of the show, and it could have been my imagination, but it seemed to have a very nice scent too! Overall, I would say it is a family friendly production. And if you're lucky enough, you might catch one of the presents that the cast will be throwing into the audience!

How to watch A Christmas Carol for free!

Tickets are priced at Php 2,100 each. It's well worth it, but possibly it's out of your budget if you want to take the whole family. So, am giving you some tips on how to see it, for free! I love Globe Live's decision not to close up the stage and thus making the show available for everyone to see. They truly want to bring a new tradition to the Philippines, for all Filipinos. a-christmas-carol-manila-for-kids-4 The drapes are only hung halfway down and they even put up big screens on the grass where most parts of the show are seen live.  So, if you are happy seeing the show from a distance, just sit on the steps of the amphitheatre at the end of High Street and you'll have a pretty good view. Still, I recommend to fully immerse yourself in the show and book those seats at the side of the stage for the ultimate experience!
