Make Everyday Mother’s Day – Tips from Nickelodeon’s Mom & Me Event
by: Sheryn Alvarez

On Mother's Day (May 13, 2018), Nickelodeon treated moms to a fun-filled, family-friendly "Mom & Me" day at The Block, SM North Edsa. There were Booth Activities themed according to some of your favorite Nickelodeon shows, such as SpongeBob SquarePants,  Sunny Day and Regal Academy. The On-Stage Activities were specially planned around mom's interests, as well as exciting games and amazing prizes moms love! Ballet Manila also put on quite an exhilarating show; performing to throw back tunes that our moms in the audience were so thrilled by, not to mention a heartwarming Mother-and-Child interpretive dance, and an enchanting excerpt from Swan Lake. But I think the best takeaway from Nickelodeon's Mom & Me event are tips on how you can make mom feel loved and special everyday, all year round! Here's how to make everyday Mother's Day, courtesy of Nickelodeon's Mom & Me event:

1. Grab a Drink Together

Taking our cue from the SpongeBob SquarePants Slushie Shop booth at the Nickelodeon's Mom & Me event, why not take mom out for drinks every now and then? Whether it's a cup of coffee at her favorite coffee shop or a shot of something stronger after work (for moms with kids above 18 only okay?😉), having a relaxed conversation with mom may just be the perfect pick-me-up she needs!

2. Treat Mom to a Day at the Spa

Sunny Day SPArty Booth aced it for moms everywhere by treating moms at the Nickelodeon's Mom & Me event to make-up and massage! So why not make this a regular thing for mom? Motherhood is by far the most physically, emotionally, and mentally taxing job on the planet, so mom definitely deserves an occasional day at the spa for a full body massage, facial, and maybe a good blowout, right?

3. Raid the Kitchen

And by this we don't mean make a mess! 😜 Why not offer to do the cooking at home at least once a day? Or voluntarily do the dishes? Or take care of doing the laundry? In short, let's lend a helping hand with the chores at home so mom can have a little down time? Helping mom relax and recharge is good for her and for the whole family!

4. Go Dancing

The mom and son tandem who won Shimmer and Shine's Genie Stop Dance at Nickelodeon's Mom & Me event set an inspiring standard for moms and kids to just let loose and have fun! Personally, my daughter loves a good beat and sometimes says to me, "Mom! C'mon let's dance!" and we just bust the moves in the bedroom or living room or wherever the music catches us! So why not go dancing with your mom soon? You don't even have to go out, just put her favorite tunes on speaker and you're good to go!

5. Dream and Do

This last tip is inspired by the Regal Academy Arts & Crafts 101 Booth and the Mommy Mundo Mompowerment Talks (by Janice Villanueva, daughter Reese Villanueva, Audrey Dimarucot, RJ Dancel and Kaye Catral). Seeing moms and their kids work intimately together in the Regal Academy Arts & Crafts 101 Booth was really heartwarming. Also, hearing the mompreneur and kidpreneur stories from Janice and her daughter Reese, was a glimpse into how we can dream and do things together with our moms. And not just put up a business, but also do things together like travel, as shared by RJ Dancel of Ang Buhay Lokal, or even simple home-based activities like bento-making, as shared by Kaye Catral of Bento Mommas. So yes, Mother's Day may "officially" come only one day a year, there's no stopping us from making Mother's Day and everyday thing by showing mom how much we love, appreciate, and support her.
