Science Film Festival Philippines 2016
The Science Film Festival started out as an initiative of the Goethe-Institut in Bangkok, to present science in an educational, yet entertaining way, and make it accessible to a young audience. Because it is much more fun to learn about science, by watching a film!
Science Film Festivals are a great opportunity to tickle the curiosity and spark the interest of our young learners. - Secretary Leonor M. Briones, Department of EducationThe festival has grown significantly since the start in 2005. With over 750 000 visitors last year in 16 countries from South East Asia, Middle East and Africa, the event is one of the largest science festivals worldwide.
The festival has only one primary mindset which is to put Science on the center stage; to promote, explore and further innovate the discipline through Science-related films from all over the world. - Dr. Ulrich Nowak, director Goethe-Institut PhilippinenThe jury received a total of 181 science films submissions from all over the world, of which 30 were selected to be shown in the Philippines for this year's theme of MATERIAL SCIENCE– understanding how materials are put together, how they can be used and how they can be changed.
The amount of new materials developed or discovered in different parts of the world everyday, presents tremendous potentials in changing the way people live. - Secretary Fortunate T. De La Peña, Department of Science and Technology
