Roots and Wings
Roots and Wings focuses on developing children's understanding and appreciation of sustainable farming, respect for nature, health and nutrition. We believe that children's learning should not be limited to classroom settings, but also through real life experiences where they are able to interact with their environment.
Summer Program
Our summer program caters to children ages 5 to 10 years old. Children will get to experience 2 days (Monday and Wednesday) at the farm and document their learning in a farm journal. Some of the experiences will include planting their own vegetables, composting, learning about how plants grow, harvesting vegetables and using it to cook, daily yoga sessions, nature arts and craft activities and many more.
Each day is based on a specific theme and question. The children will spend the day investigating and engaging in experiences in order determine the answer. The program will continue rain or shine, so please be prepared with rain boots and rain jackets in case it rains. The themes per day are as follows:
Day 1: Planting and Sustainable Farming
Day 2: Farm to Table/ Healthy Eating
Batches
There are 3 batches in July on Mondays and Wednesdays:
Batch 1: July 2 & 4
Batch 2: July 9 & 11
Batch 3: July 16 & 18
Fee
Fee is Php 6,000 pesos for 2 days at the farm per day and is inclusive of transportation from Metro Manila for the child and guardian, meals, and materials. Bring a buddy and receive 15% off the program fee!
Daily Schedule

As children arrive, they will have morning snacks at the Pavilion where the day's activities will be discussed, and a story will be read related to the theme of the day. Afterwards, students will go on different tours around the farm related to the theme of the day. They will be encouraged to document their observations in their farm journal including notes, questions and vocabulary. Children will be given time to write/draw.
Children will then meet in the Bahay Kubo classroom where they will discuss what they observed during the tour. The teacher will create a mind map documenting children's observations, questions and connections made. During this time, misconceptions and vocabulary are addressed and explained. A fun and engaging science experiment will then be conducted based on the theme of the day.
After the science experiment, children will transition to the Art Studio for arts and crafts. Each arts and craft activity is based on the theme for the day and may be taken home. Lunch will be served in the pavilion right next to the kitchen. Children will have the option to have a picnic around the property accompanied by an adult. Children will then have the option to do a quiet activity like read a book, build puzzles, or to nap.
Following nap/rest time is yoga. Students will meet in the Yoga Studio under a tent in the grassy area. This playful kind of yoga involves music, singing, story time and ends with a quiet and mindful meditation. After yoga is outdoor play, which involves children engaging in gross motor activities that encourages movement and aerobic exercise. Some games include capture the flag, freeze tag, red rover, bean bag toss and sack race. Additionally, children are welcome to take a walk around the farm to further explore the property.
After outdoor time, children meet in the Bahay Kubo classroom for another lesson related to the theme of the day. This lesson helps solidify and extend children's learning and understanding about the theme.
